Onweagba's international career followed her victory in the inaugural Face of Africa competition in 1998, which contemporary accounts say led to a three-year contract with Elite Model Management. A 2010 interview described work for publications including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition, as well as work for Victoria's Secret. Models.com also maintains a record of her professional assignments, including editorial and cover work in 2023.
Onweagba founded and owned O Model Africa. Evidence of the agency's operation includes its award of a three-year modeling contract to Face of Africa 2008 winner Kate Menson. Reporting about Onweagba's later television work also connected the agency with her efforts to identify and develop African modeling talent, although the available sources do not establish whether O Model Africa remains active.
Africa's Next Top Model debuted in November 2013 with Onweagba as executive producer. Television coverage and program records also identify her as the competition's host and judge, extending her public role from modeling and agency ownership into a televised search for African fashion talent.
In a March 2010 interview, Onweagba said she expected to graduate from New York University that May with a bachelor's degree in leadership and management. The available evidence does not independently confirm that the degree was conferred.
